Stephanie Visca, MS, Pd, Recognized by Cambridge Who's Who For Excellence in Special Education
Ms. Visca has dedicated more than three decades to special needs students

QUEENS, NY, November 01, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Stephanie Visca, MS, Pd, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in special education.

Ms. Visca has 38 years of experience in regular and special education, and has spent the last eighteen years as a school administrator and principal of the Geller House School in Staten Island, a residential diagnostic center for children and families in crisis with learning, emotional and behavioral needs. Her areas of expertise include special education, remedial and general education, assessment and early childhood education. Previously, Ms. Visca has held several other administrative positions, including coordinator/supervisor of special education at Warwick Valley Central Schools, CSE chair/director of special education at Greenburgh Eleven UFSD, and acting director of special services at Edgemont UFSD. She also spent many years as a general and special education classroom teacher in Westchester school districts.

Ms. Visca has excellent oral and written communications skills to provide maximum support for students, parents, CSE and school staff. She has experience in the assessment and development of programs, budgets, policies, procedures, curricula, and student evaluations, as well as demonstrated abilities in the observation of teachers and support staff. She is also knowledgeable about the state and federal regulations and requirements for educating children ages 3-21.

According to Ms. Visca, the most gratifying aspect of her career is her realization of her vision statement, posed as a challenge in 1989, in her position as Coordinator/Supervisor of Special Education. "Life is mainstream" has become the norm for today's special needs students. Whereas in 1989 special needs students were mainly separated and isolated from their mainstream peers, today most students with special needs are included in the main stream to benefit from the full educational program with support services. In 1989 most teachers and administrators did not have specific training in working with special needs students. Ms. Visca provided them with the tools they needed to include special needs students in their classrooms, far in advance of the norm, of today.

Ms. Visca holds several degrees from Pace University and the College of New Rochelle, including a Pd in Administration and Supervision, a Master of Science in Special Education and Language and Learning Disabilities, and a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education. She is a member of Empire State Supervisors and Administrators Association, ASCD, NYSUT, and National Reading Association. She volunteers locally for various community activities including the Staten Island Children's Campaign, Toys for Tots, USO, and serves as Ladies President of the MSYC yacht club where she is the chairperson of the children's Christmas party, and the annual 9-11/Veteran's Recognition Brunch and Patriotic sing-a-long for veterans, families and community organizations. Hobbies include boating, swimming, singing, music, reading, and writing.

Recently retired, Ms. Visca looks forward, from her home office, to continue and to expand her experiences, and to share her past experience and knowledge through consulting, advocating, writing and teaching at the college level.
