NEW YORK, NY, July 25, 2010 /Stanford Who's Who/ -- Sister Maria Goretti Mannix has been accepted among the ranks of premier professionals with Stanford Who's Who as a result of her extraordinary effort in the area of spiritual services. As Assistant Congregation Minister for the Franciscan Handmaids of the Most Pure Heart of Mary, as well as throughout her incredible 60 year career, Sister Maria has consistently displayed the passion, vision and dedication necessary to be considered among the best.

The Franciscan Handmaids of the Most Pure Heart of Mary is an organization committed to joyful evangelization and empowerment of people, especially those experiencing discrimination. They set forth to spread the word of Christ through dedication and the practice of corporal and spiritual works of mercy, including teaching, visiting the sick, giving retreats, catechizing, operating a food pantry and directing a health initiative in the rural village of Owerri, Nigeria.

Sister Maria has been a member of the organization for 60 years. She takes the place of the Congregation Minister when she is absent from the Motherhouse or impeded in any way. Sister Maria also serves as the Formation Director and she is responsible for the Candidate, Novice, Temporary Professed, and Transfer Candidates, meeting with them on a regular basis, using their documents, Constitution Directory, Vows, and Franciscan areas of study to guide them in their formation.

During her career, Sister Maria has also served as an elementary and high school teacher as well as a principal. She has worked with numerous destitute children, taking care of young people trying to get out of abusive situations. In the time away from her busy schedule, Sister Maria greatly enjoys reading as well as working on arts and crafts.
